COACH ZORAN AND HIS
AFRICAN TIGERS

Feature Documentary

Official Competition at IDFA & played at over 20 film festivals

South Sudan became an independent state in July 2011, following almost 50 years of civil war. This film follows maverick coach Zoran Djordjevic as he seeks to forge the first national football team in the fragile new country.  What follows is a gripping tale of grim determination and misadventure that is surprising, tragic and darkly comic.

Press on release:

"As well as being a story about the birth of a national football team, it's a moving story about the birth – after nearly 50 years of bloody civil war – of a nation... It's quite simply brilliant. Paced just right, not too fast, not too slow, it allows the story to tell itself, with no irritating narration, no interfering, no directing you how to think. It's very sad and moving, but also hilarious. It's shot with wit and a raised eyebrow, using juxtaposition and incongruousness" - Sam Wollaston, The Guardian
